Job Title:             Warehouse Receiver/Truck Driver

Department:      Warehouse (Retail, Food Bank)

Reports to:         Operations Manager

12 month full-time contract


GBF Community Services provides assistance to members of our community to meet their basic needs and to achieve self-sufficiency.

Position Overview:

The role of this position is to plan and coordinate all operations in the Retail warehouse. This involves working closely with volunteers and the general public.  This position also involves operating the company truck for dump runs, furniture deliveries and pickups, and monthly food donation pickups.  Monitors the physical and mechanical condition of the truck to ensure a safe truck for operations.


Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the day to day operations of the retail warehouse

  • Assist as required for the Food Bank warehouse requirements

  • Train and coordinate volunteers to cover daily operation of the warehouse

  • Set up systems to manage intake, sorting, merchandising and sale of donated items

  • Prepare monthly volunteer schedule for warehouse/furniture desk

  • Assess valuation of donated furniture/household items

  • Assist with moving and displaying donations as required

  • Responsible for landfill deliveries and pick ups

  • Responsible for Scheduling and assist with Diversion Program

  • Responsible for record keeping of truck log book

  • Enforce, implement and document ongoing warehouse safety procedures, conduct regular warehouse inspections

  • Ensure that workplace Health & Safety requirements are met

  • Responsible for closing of warehouse and locking of recycling bins daily

  • Maintain housekeeping of warehouse and surrounding area internally and externally

  • Responsible for the assessment of pickups of excess donations (Canadian Diabetes). Ensure that the Advantage bins are maintained and emptied on a regular basis (i.e. electronics and paper/


  • Assist with Food deliveries from community members as required

  • Load, unload and clean truck, regularly

  • Ensure all licensing requirements are maintained for truck

  • Ensure regular maintenance checkups for the truck

  • Responsible for ensuring current listing and all requirements for volunteers who have permission for driving the truck are kept on file

Other Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals, including volunteers and clients of GBF either autonomously or in a team environment.

  • Must exhibit excellent customer service skills while interacting with GBF staff, donor, agencies, general public and or clients at all times.

  • Effective interpersonal and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a level of professionalism, promoting GBF Community Services community spirit and mission.

Employment Requirements:


  • Must be self-motivated with strong conflict resolution and decision making skills

  • Organized, strong work ethic and excellent time management skills

  • Ability to operate a truck, pallet jack.

  • Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and or move objects up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and or move objects that weigh more than 100 pounds.

  • Required to work Friday evenings and Saturdays.

  • A Valid Driver’s License is required

  • Safety Footwear is required

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director and or Governing Board.
